In our second session, we organized into groups of three and we began looking at how to find and analyse potential clients. For this we looked at S.W.O.T analysis, Competitive Analysis, and News Analysis.
S.W.O.T analysis consists to look at a potential clients Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. In this class we did a David Bowie S.W.O.T.
Strengths: Large fan base, ability to change with the times, icon face, unique, iconic voice, very well known, connections: andy warhol, culture diverse...
Weaknesses: Age, can he still interest the younger generations? Always changing can also be a weakness, Past life style choices may effect people's perceptions of Bowie (drugs, alcohol)... can not connect with real Bowie.
Opportunities: To reinvent Bowie for a 21st century audience, to create great popular music with an iconic figure pushing it to become popular.
Diversity skills'. Museum exhibitions.
Threats: Life style. Age, getting old, danger of becoming a "British Treasure" and appearing on chat shows and as a judge on the Voice, losing Bowie's mysteriousness, as Bowie gets older he will be asked to play his biggest hits more and more, to keep writing music and being respected for his music he probably does not want to find himself singing "Changes" on stage with Paul McCartney, Elton John, Tom Jones and Cliff Richard.
After this session we need to start to find our own client.
Also that day in our break we had a presentation of "Forest of Imagination". A new Festival in Bath where everything is going to happen.
They want the students of Graphics would be involved in this project in the web design, social media, identity and apparel for the festival.
I signed to be involved in apparel group.
